Information for Students

One of the main goals of the Center on Age and Community is to encourage students to gain real world experience in the field of aging. If you are a student who would like to know more about the field of aging, or are looking for an opportunity to work with older adults, the information on this page is designed to help you. Please be sure to check back in the future, as the information on this page is updated on a regular basis.

The "Introduction to Aging" PowerPoint presentation was designed to familiarize students with working with older adults. It was also created to give students the necessary background to get the most out of their experiential learning opportunities with older adults. This overview of working with older adults takes about 20 minutes to read, and students who are new to the field of aging are encouraged to view the presentation prior to their first experience working with older adults.

Information for Agency and University Faculty and Staff

The need for professionals serving older adults is on the rise - in nursing, social work, and a variety of other fields. However, most students express limited interest in working with this population. In an effort to expand student interest in the field of aging, the Center on Age and Community is committed to finding experiential learning opportunities, and giving students the necessary training to benefit from these experiences.

This section was designed to give agency and university personnel the tools to establish experiential learning opportunities for students. It is also a useful starting-point for connecting with aging resources in Milwaukee and throughout the country.

"Starting an Internship Program for Agencies" PowerPoint presentation was designed for agency and university personnel who are helping students learn about the field of aging. It provides an overview of working with students, and encourages agencies to hire students as volunteers, service learners, and/or interns. The presentation takes about twenty minutes to read.
