What does the Center do?

  • The Center offers educational programs and fosters partnerships between aging service providers and researchers and students at UWM. Since 2009, we have focused our research on creative engagement and its transformative potential for long term care. 
  • We see ourselves on the cutting edge of long term care - asking the hard questions and finding innovative answers in the course of our conferences, workshops, educational materials, and college classes.

How is the Center related to the Endowed Chair of Applied Gerontology?

  • The Center director is on the advisory committee for the Endowed Chair, and the Endowed Chair is on the Center's Leadership Council. We collaborate with the Endowed Chair's research team as we do with other scholars on campus (and beyond).

Does the Center offer support services? 

  • The Center provides educational offerings in the form of workshops, trainings, college classes, and conferences.  We offer resources (some free, some for a fee)  online, including our free and downloadable white papers from our Next Step Think Tanks.  See our resources page for more information.

Do you have scholarships?

  • Yes! Through the generous support of the Helen Bader Foundation, students intending to take the Graduate Certificate in Applied Gerontology can apply for scholarships each spring.

Where are you located?

  • Our main office is in Enderis Hall, room 1164, on the UWM campus, on the historic East Side of Milwaukee. We've got a lovely view of Lake Michigan, which, for those of you who don't know, you can't see across...We're 90 minutes north of Chicago and 90 minutes east of Madison. 

What is your geographic focus?

  • We now have much of our coursework available online, so our focus is expanding from local to international.  But we also focus locally/regionally on our educationa/networking events.
